Activities

Department of Urdu and Persian is running Part-time evening courses but simultaneously department is engage in research in both the languages Urdu and Persian. The department is doing research in the field of Classical, Medieval and Modern areas of language and literature. Department has guided 25 Ph. D. Persian posses the status of classical language of India. It influenced Indian languages and as well as literature and culture. Our medieval literature is influenced particularly by Persian and Urdu. Medieval history is not complete without the study of Persian because, for a long time Persian was state language of India.  Since Sultanate period till Maharaja Ranjit Singh all the records were in Persian language. The terminology used in courts, military, police department, construction, roads and irrigation mostly is derivate from Persian.  Literature of Urdu and Persian reflect the costumes and traditions of the society of its period. So, anybody can   study the sociology and history of a particular era with the help of these languages
